The Post Deka-Deka-Deka-Deka-Dekaranger Update

Well, maybe not exactly post Dekaranger, but close enough.  All 50 episodes are out, but as I’m sure you’re used to, I’m gonna go through and make changes to some episodes, particularly early ones, for consistency’s sake.  Once that’s done I’ll make a folder with everything in it so you don’t have to hunt through everything, same as I did for Battle Fever and Denziman.  Nothing new there.

Now unlike those series, Dekaranger has other movies.  I’ve declined to do them in the past, but I might decide to do a bit of script editing to include my terms for that consistency for the versus movies with Abaranger and Magiranger (not doing 10YA or the Space Squad films at all, sorry.)  It wouldn’t take nearly as long as doing a script from scratch since everything would be timed and translated already, it would just be minor edits and term changes.  Let me know if this sounds like something worth doing, in which case I’ll slip them in sometime in the future.

The other thing of Deka I will be doing and will be included in the complete batch is a Youtube rip found of the Deka live show.  It doesn’t seem professionally filmed and… well… it’s a Youtube rip, but it’s better than nothing.  That’ll go in as well, so there is still some Deka stuff to look forward to.

Otherwise, that’s it for Deka.  So what’s the next major project going to be?  I’ve only done Sentai so far (except for one Sentai-themed release), but that’s about to change.  I will be returning to where I originated in the 1970s for a very familiar-looking hero.  Hey hey hey, it’s Toei Spiderman from 1978!  I think it’s been underlooked and potentially underwatched despite its historical significance due to only having VHS hardsubbed rips that don’t look very good.  There’s since been a decent DVD rip of the series, and I hope my sub will do the show the justice it deserves, especially considering its unlikely to get another release due to all of the copyright shenanigans.

Holiday Special! Softsub Versions of XIG’s Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman & Kamen Rider (1971)!

Phew, just made it!  With my busy work schedule this week, and the amount of episodes to be uploaded, I was worried these weren’t going to go up on time, but here they are!

Now, THESE ARE NOT MY SUBS.  These subs are from the brilliant XIG, I just muxed the scripts and video together and added in the font files so everything looks right.  Nothing should be different in this Fiveman release other than it being soft.  For Kamen Rider this is mostly true, but there was one font I couldn’t exactly find, so I went in and changed all 100 files’ scripts (100 because of the two KR movies also being included) from that font to a similar one, a barely noticeable difference but one I needed to do.  Everything else is the same.  It was a lot of episodes, so if something’s wrong on one of them, let me know and I’ll fix it.

So, I hope you enjoy!  I know it’s not as huge as some other recent developments in the world of Toku subs, but it’s still something.

Behold, the Things to Come!

Time to address the topic that’s been on peoples’ minds so much I had to make an update about it.  And truth be told, I’m unsure what the reception is going to be to this, but here we go.

First order of business is the Denziman Full Series Batch post.  That will be up in a couple days with some early episode fixes/quick changes, nothing crazy, but I ask that nobody make a full series torrent until that’s released just in case.

After that I will begin working on a one-off special.  The Shout DVD release is already out for this season, but as the DVD set does not contain the movies, I consider this fair game.  My first post-Denziman release will be Gaoranger vs Super Sentai.  There is currently an old hardsub done of it and nothing else, so I will give the movie an updated release with better quality video and in its own softsub/hardsub formats.

But the real question is what series am I going to do next?  Well, we’re going to be staying in the 2000s for Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger.  I will be doing the series and the summer movie (Full Blast Action), but not the VS Aba or 10 YA movies, as those have already been released by Pocket Universe.  My hope is to get it released nice and quick to be another option than Tv-Nihon (no disrespect to them)… unless Overtime is secretly, like, two episodes away from releasing everything.  Then I have a backup.

Going along with Gaoranger vs Super Sentai and Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger will be a different typesetting style.  I’ve been trying some stuff out privately and I’d love to give it a spin on these newer series.

What Happens Now? The Post-BFJ Update

So when I started this whole thing I knew basically nothing of subtitling, and had very limited Japanese knowledge.  By now the situation has changed.  I think my subs are of a respectful quality, and I have been studying Japanese for some time.  And as a lot of you have guessed I aim to do Denziman next.

However, I am not yet of the skill level where I can take a Sentai show fully head-on with no “direction-pointing” and still make something I consider good.  I had a net to catch me with BFJ, none such exists for Denziman besides the old Dead Fish subs that I used as a baseline for my two previous specials.  And while a lot of episodes were subtitled by DFF, not all were.

It is here I ask if anyone wants to “get on board” and be the translator for it, expanding this operation.  You do not need to know anything of the subbing process, I can handle all of that.  All you need is a good knowledge of Japanese.  No pay, consider it volunteer work.

If nobody takes the position, I will still give Denziman my best shot, so I will still do it one way or another, same as I did BFJ.  No idea when the first Denziman batch will drop (they will be more similar to how I did the v1s for BFJ, not the v2s in size.)  Get hyped?

Happy Anniversary to Me!

Well guys, it’s official.  I’ve been doing Battle Fever J for a year now.  Thank you to anyone who supported me in some way along the way.  My hope is to get one more update out before the end of the year.  Look forward to it!

An Update

Hey guys, just a quick update.  I was hoping to get the next batch done for Christmas, but that seems to be a star in the sky due to slowing.  This is mostly because I was in a place with no internet over Thanksgiving break, after forgetting to download the episode, as well as having been out of town a lot since, and making a stupid mistake on Episode 5, making it take twice as much time to do.

 

So, I apologize, hectic time for me.  Point of update: expect the next batch of episodes a little after Christmas or early January.  Just know I haven’t stopped.
